Places of Interest
This part of historic Somerset has more than its fair share of museums,
National Trust houses and places of interest to visit.
As you might expect of the most famous cider-making region in the world
there is a museum charting the development of cider making through the years
and there are craft demonstrations including basket making and cheese
making.
No visit to Somerset would be complete without a visit to the famous Cheddar
Caves or the more sinister Wookey Hole caves.
Perhaps one of the more unusual outings is a visit to the visitors' centre
at the massive Hinkley Point nuclear power station.
Activities
Activities may be no more than a gentle
stroll on the Quantock Hills or along the beautiful Somerset coast, or even
a brisk walk to the local village pub a quarter of a mile away.
However, for the really active, a walk
along the River Parrett Trail may be the order of the day. There is a vast
variety of places to visit and things to do. Bridgwater, home of the
world-famous Bridgwater Carnival, is only one and a half miles away,
providing shops, restaurants and recreational activities.
There are no less than three leisure centres in the town offering facilities
for squash, badminton, trampolining and many other sports. The new
Bridgwater swimming pool has all the thrills of flumes and a wave machine.
There are three golf courses within easy driving distance including the
course at Enmore Park only a few minutes drive away. Horse riding, fishing
and jet skiing are all available in the area.
The busy seaside resorts of Weston-super-Mare, Minehead and Burnham-on-Sea
are only a short run away as well as many unspoilt coves and bays along both
coasts. The busy market town of Taunton is also nearby, home of the famous
Somerset Cricket Club. |
